WHAT IS COQ10?
Coenzyme Q10, commonly known as CoQ10, is closely involved in the metabolic processes that convert glucose into energy, which powers all of the body's processes. This is why it is so prevalent in muscle tissue, with the heart muscle having the highest concentration of CoQ10.
UBIQUINONE VS UBIQUINOL
There are two different forms of CoQ10: Ubiquinol and ubiquinone. Both serve the same function in the body. Ubiquinone, the form we use in our supplements, is the oxidized form of CoQ10, which has been used in supplements for much longer than ubiquinol. This means that most research has been conducted with this form, which is used in cellular energy and ATP metabolism.
Ubiquinol must be converted to ubiquinone in order to be absorbed in the intestines. It will then convert back and forth multiple times, sometimes in less than a second, to perform its function best depending on where it is located in the body: blood, lymph, or mitochondria. This is why we use ubiquinone in our CoQ10 product.
